Website helps family grieve
A MUM is delighted by the publics response to a website set up in memory of her son who tragically died at 17.
Olwyn Atkinson and her husband Phillip lost their son Jonathan, a pupil at Parrs Wood, in 2000, after doctors failed to diagnose a common but fatal ear disease.
And in December last year Olwyn appealed to friends of Jonathan's through the Reporter to try and find video footage, which might show images of her son.
In response to that Chris O'Connor, a web designer from Withington set up a site dedicated to Jonathan, which his old school friends have left messages on.
Olwyn said: We have received lots of messages from people, who knew him, and it has been smashing, we are really pleased.
The website has worked brilliantly and we are very grateful to Chris. I have replied to all the messages that have been left and one of his friend's said they might come and visit us and put flowers on Jonathan's grave.
Jonathan was affectionately known as the Jolly Giant at school, he attended Beaver Road Primary between 1986 and 1991 and was at Parrs Wood High between 1991 and 1999.
The family lived on Norwood Avenue in Burnage but now live in Shropshire and since they moved have had no daily contact with the people who would have known him, so the website was a perfect solution
Olwyn said: Sometimes I find it very upsetting to read the messages but it is lovely as well, I think it helps me with my grief knowing people remember him.
But we still have not found any video footage of him, we need to hear from an enthusiastic dad who used to take a video camera to school events.
